As one of the most influential artists of our time, John Baldessari has been working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, film and books.
Since his early career in the 1960s, Baldessari has been concerned with the notions and boundaries of art. From his conceptual artworks in the 60s and 70s in which he incorporated images and texts to the recent works of film still montages, Baldessari’s art emphasises the relational and contextual meaning of found imagery.
Baldessari has won numerous prestigious awards and accolades including the Oscar Kokoschka Prize, Vienna, Austria, the Americans for the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award and BACA (Biennial Award for Contemporary Art) International 2008 award from Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht. Netherlands. Baldessari’s works are held in public collections of museums across the globe, including Museum of Modern Art, New York, Art Institute of Chicago, Getty Museum, Los Angeles. His retrospective will be held at The Tate Modern, London in 2009. |
